Working with your Wife

As you all know by now, S.V. is a family business, one mainly run by myself and my partner Phillip. Working together is as delicate as working with a fine Emerald, absolutely beautiful but too much heat and it's going to explode!

We navigate the waters quite well, I like to think the biggest reason we work together so well is because we have the same vision for our store and the same work ethic. By that I mean we both eat, sleep, and breathe this store. With that being said, it is impossible for our relationship to be perfection when dealing with something as stressful as a baby business!

Are you Seriously telling me you don't agree?!

I already did it....oops!

Its hard to separate personal life from work life when they are so closely intertwined, something we encountered this past week. When a disagreement over the store was brought home it lead to the longest fight in our five year history, for 3 days we barely spoke to each other. As I mentioned before, we are very like minded which means we are both equally stubborn ;) In the end, the argument was not only resolved but lead to an intensive brain storm which brought out so many ideas for our future that we are bringing our re-branding about 10 steps further! Just wait for all the exciting changes we have up our sleeve.


So for all the fellow family run businesses, or for a couple contemplating a co ownership - here are some words of wisdom from a couple right in the thick of things;

-Learn to Breathe 

- Never bring work home or home to work

- Remember to be a couple first and business partners second.
