As you all know by now, S.V. is a family business, one mainly run by myself and my partner Phillip. Working together is as delicate as working with a fine Emerald, absolutely beautiful but too much heat and it's going to explode!
We navigate the waters quite well, I like to think the biggest reason we work together so well is because we have the same vision for our store and the same work ethic. By that I mean we both eat, sleep, and breathe this store. With that being said, it is impossible for our relationship to be perfection when dealing with something as stressful as a baby business!

Its hard to separate personal life from work life when they are so closely intertwined, something we encountered this past week. When a disagreement over the store was brought home it lead to the longest fight in our five year history, for 3 days we barely spoke to each other. As I mentioned before, we are very like minded which means we are both equally stubborn ;) In the end, the argument was not only resolved but lead to an intensive brain storm which brought out so many ideas for our future that we are bringing our re-branding about 10 steps further! Just wait for all the exciting changes we have up our sleeve.
So for all the fellow family run businesses, or for a couple contemplating a co ownership - here are some words of wisdom from a couple right in the thick of things;
-Learn to Breathe
- Never bring work home or home to work
- Remember to be a couple first and business partners second.
So tomorrow, June 21, is the Bank Street Sidewalk Sale! An awesome way for all the stores to get out in the sun and show you what we got, and what we got is a whole lot of HOT ;)

Personally as a small business owner, the sidewalk sale is huge! I love that it gives us an opportunity to really "hit the street" and meet the bank street community. Its an amazing marketing opportunity and an affordable way to get ourselves out there, which is why its disappointing to have 2 days taken away from us! This just means we have to make the most of our day tomorrow and I intend to with good people, great pieces, and maybe a bit of a tan? maybe? ;)

Each piece you purchase is important! It spoke to you, suited you, intrigued you enough to spend your hard earned money on it. What does this have to do with S.V. Jewellers? Throughout the day the girls were rocking our Fab SHAMBALLA bracelets, and I of course was decked out in some of my favorite pieces! I received so many compliments and questions about my Ital Gem necklace that I decided it deserved its own posting :) It is so flattering and reassuring in our taste and piece selection when one is received with such praise and interest!

The Chunky effect is one of my all time favorite looks, its effortless and chic. The best part is you can combine your favorite pieces from different lines, I like to add a little sparkle from my Shamballa collection next to a sterling silver Bacio bead bracelet!
You don't have to color match all of your pieces, it is just what I was in the mood for today. Color blocking your bracelets and watch is another fun way to add interest to your outfit or wearing complimentary colors and different textures together grabs the eye and creates a nice flow. My Husband and I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman last night, a movie I have been anticipating for months! Of course the problem with spending months excited for a movie is that you end up with high expectations that are bound to be let down. The movie was entertaining, a darker retelling full of action and anticipation, however when it was over I was left feeling unsatisfied. It was exciting and the story line was well thought out but I still feel as though something was missing. The epic-ness that is Charlize Theron, the awkward beauty of Kristen Stewart, and the far from awkward beauty that is Chris Hemsworth well made up for the weaker points.
VISUALS! Stunning visual effects left me amazed but by far the best part of the movie had to be the costumes! Colleen Atwood pulled together some of the most fantastic pieces, completely thought out from head to toe and flowing with the storyline. As the movie progresses the evil queens costumes get darker and begin to fall apart with her.

For those who are new to the S.V. Jewellers Experience, I first want to welcome you to the family! And to give you a little background information on who we are, what we do, and why you should get to know our store! :)
Sonny Giang has been working in the Jewellery trade for over 35 years,
training in China, Vietnam, and Canada. He has crafted his very own
technique and style when it comes to Jewellery repairs and creating
custom pieces, becoming well known for his unique stone settings due to
their strength and esthetic is just the beginning of Sonny’s extensive
list of accomplishments. Along with jewellery Sonny has also become the
front runner in Clock repairs for the Ottawa and surrounding areas. His
expertise is in antique and grandfather clocks but not limited to all
other styles. Sonny’s career in jewellery began at the age of 14 when he
started his first job as a Jeweler in a factory in Cambodia. From there
he only grew and excelled in his trade eventually coming to Canada and
working as a Jeweler for well known companies until opening his own
store; he brings to you S.V. Jewellers - where technical expertise and
artistic styling brings you classic pieces with a modern edge.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Phillip has partnered with Sonny
to bring you a modern jewellery boutique where you can find everything
from classic to innovative in a range of materials, affordable to high
end! Phillip brings an enthusiasm to the store that makes you feel
comfortable while shopping, as well as an extensive knowledge of jewels
and materials passed on to him from his training with Sonny. Phillips
fiance Shannon has taken on the role of Designs and Merchandising,
helping to create the style and ambiance that is S.V. Working together
with Phillip, they bring you fresh ideas which mold her classic vintage
style with his modern and innovative side. Watch them sketch your very
own custom piece to be created specifically to your taste and needs all
while enjoying a cup of coffee.
Mother and wife, Vinh, has been learning all forms of jewellery repairs
from Sonny for over 20 years and is best known for her work with pearl
necklaces and bracelets. She treats each piece with a strong attention
to detail and with a patience only achieved by a mother of 4 ;)

UPGRADE!
One of our favorite services is to help upgrade your existing jewellery. This client had a gorgeous solitaire engagement ring with matching band which we upgraded to a Halo Setting! GORGEOUS!
"Engagement Ring Jacket!"
When this fashion forward client was ready to create her matching wedding band we were able to create a Jacket for her engagement ring creating a two tone ring! Her yellow gold engagement ring literally slides into the connected white gold bands. My personal favorite so far.
Classic Bezel Pendants:
These completely hand made bezel pendants, though simple and classic, are a piece I will always remember because of the meaning behind them. Our client had two rings from her late father that we used to create these pieces. She was going to keep one and give the other one to her sister as a gift. A way to keep their dad with them wherever they went.
Custom Couple's "Love" Bands
Our Clients wanted to make new wedding bands that would be original and meaningful to them. When worn together their bands form a heart, creating the bond they share. Inside the rings we hand engraved "Infinity". A beautiful gesture and a piece that has been asked for many times - however we do not offer replicas, all of our custom pieces are one of a kind.
